SFAI’s Summer Session, 1978 was pretty solid and publicized with a fold-out set of SF postcard images with info on the verso. Paul Kos taught “Non-Sculpture,” George Lakoff’s class was “Language, Experience and Art.” There were two different photo workshops—one with LA photographers, Robert Heinecken, Jo Ann Callis, Eileen Cowin, and one with SF photographers Ingeborg Gerdes, and Minnette Lehmann, coupled with Mike Mandel and Larry Sultan who used “Billboards as a context for photographic works, including a class billboard in S.F.” Also included were Wally Hedrick, Cherie Raciti, and Hassel Smith teaching painting and drawing as well as Mike Kuchar’s film class, “Beyond the Budget Barrier.” Angela Davis taught “Problems in Aesthetics,” while Peter Plagens organized a guest lecture series, and the “Poetry Now,” class was taught by poets Philip Lamantia and Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
