Celebrating June PRIDE

Theophilus Brown and Paul Wonner were first generation members of the Bay Area Figurative Movement along with David Park and Richard Diebenkorn. They were lifelong partners from the time they attended the University of California where they had met. Both taught at SFAI and both Wonner and Brown influenced this fascinating art movement as well as a multitude of painting students of the 1950s and 1960s. Brown said:
“We were together 50 years. He was my best critic and I think I was his best critic. We really trusted each other. And, well, I thought he was a marvelous man. Still do.”
