2019 Jenny Odell MFA 2010


2010 MFA, Jenny Odell’s How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy  was selected by Barack Obama for his 2019  “books of the year” list. Odell’s SFAI work included Travel by Approximation, a virtual road trip via “Google Street View, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Wikipedia, virtual hotel tours, etc.” She currently teaches at Stanford. One of her “favorite projects” was “The Bureau of Suspended Objects,” “.....a searchable online archive of 200 objects salvaged from the San Francisco dump.”

She has also written an investigative story about e-commerce for the New York Times

Odell’s “Why Birds Do What They Do,” appeared in the June 2020, The Atlantic.
