With the completion of the 1969 Paffard Clay building, the student eatery moved into its current location---a “Gourmet Cafeteria” that offered a panoramic bay view of Alcatraz and the shipping channel, and with a mid-century modern vibe. Students, Sarah Ayres and Casandra Mitchell, “were the cooks behind the counter” and boasted a menu of French bread sandwiches, homemade soup, fresh fruit, German Chocolate cake….and a Mary Jane Special.” The café touted “natural sandwiches, goodies” and holiday decorations throughout the 1970s…
