1947 Dorothea Lange Amuses SFAI Students

Dorothea Lange, lower right, amuses students, probably explaining how there is a lot more to photography than view-camera images of  National Parks.  Students in this photo include John Bertolino, David Johnson, Olympian--George Wallace, John Reed, Muriel Green (next to Dorothea), Bill Heick (at the back of the studio), Ruth-Marion Baruch, Benjamen Chinn, Helen Howell, and others. As dogmatic as Ansel was, he made sure there was a wide range of diverse faculty--Edward Weston, Minor White, Imogen Cunningham, Lisette Model, and Alma Lavenson.
